Amid targeted killings, Army Chief on 2-day visit to Jammu to review security situation

Army Chief will arrive in the Jammu region where the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of White Knight Corps will give him an update on the security situation.

New Delhi, Oct 19: Amid the recent killing of civilians and heightened counter-terrorist operations in the Poonch-Rajouri sectors, Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane will be on a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir to review the security situation and operational preparedness.

According to a statement issued by the Indian Army, Gen Naravane will arrive in the Jammu region where the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of White Knight Corps will give him an update on the security situation.

The Indian Army said on Twitter, "General MM Naravane, COAS (Chief of Army Staff) is on a two-day visit to Jammu Region wherein GOC White Knight Corps will give an update on the security situation and operational preparedness. COAS will visit forward areas and interact with troops and commanders on the ground."
 
 
A total of nine Indian Army bravehearts have been martyred during the anti-terror operations in Poonch district in recent days. In the last two days, four bodies- Riflemen Vikram Singh Negi and Yogambar Singh, Subedar Ajay Singh and Naik Harendra Singh- of Army personnel were recovered from a forest in Poonch. The four were missing since a fierce encounter with terrorists on Thursday. In the gun battle that ensued, a JCO and four jawans were martyred.

In addition, targeted killings of civilians by terrorists have also increased. The incidents have taken place in broad daylight. Moreover, on October 9, two on-duty Jammu & Kashmir police officials sustained injuries amid rounds of firing and attacks by terrorists.
