UN secy-general thanks India for gifting 2 lakh Covid vaccine doses to peacekeepers

New Delhi, February 22: Appreciating India's efforts, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed his gratitude towards India for offering 200,000 COVID vaccine doses for UN Peacekeepers. Further, he applauded India saying, “India has been a global leader in pandemic response efforts.”

 

 

"India has been a global leader in pandemic response efforts. Appreciate efforts to strengthen COVAX Facility for ensuring equitable access to vaccines," TS Tirumurti, India’s Permanent Representative to UN, quoted UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres as saying.

 

UN Secretary-General extends his gratitude to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar for offering 200,000 COVID vaccine doses for UN Peacekeepers. Guterres had said he was “extremely grateful" for the gift. Last week, India supplied a total of 229.7 lakh doses of Coronavirus vaccines.

Apart from that, he also appreciates India providing “critical medicines, diagnostic kits, ventilators, and PPE to more than 150 countries.”

 

India has supplied a total of 229.7 lakh doses of coronavirus vaccine to the global community to date under its initiative 'Vaccine Maitri’ program. From international media to world leaders, India is lavishly praised for its vaccine diplomacy and helping other countries in times of need. Earlier this week, Dominican Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit thanked India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for providing 35,000 'Made In India’ coronavirus vaccines to the Caribbean nation.
