The medical colleges in Rajasthan were allowed to purchase medical equipment to provide better health services to patients. However, in the recent revelation by Dainik Bhaskar, the officers involved in the purchase have bought the equipment at a higher price while using fraudulent measures. The officers of Sikar Medical college bought the locks on June 16. These locks were to be installed for the vacant wards in the Sawali Covid Hospital, as many wards were closed till June 16.

But, the locks worth Rs 30 each were bought for Rs 100, and that the bills for the purchase were provided by the medical store. About the case, Dr. KK Verma, Principal of the Medical College, said, "The purchase was done for the Covid Hospital, it was done at their own level. I do not know much about the purchase of locks from the drugstore and what amount has been paid. Why officers have done that in this purchase, I will take information on Monday."

The medical college officer’s documents show that the purchase of locks was from the same shop from which the hospital used to buy pulse oximeters and oxygen flowmeters. Vijay Pharma issued a bill in the name of the Principal and Controller of Medical College on 16th June in lieu of the purchase of locks.

More revelations:
  • According to the report, scrutiny of bills has revealed that pulse oximeters were bought for one and a half times the price. An oximeter worth Rs 1200 was bought for Rs 1800. The surprising thing is that five days after the last purchase, the same oximeter cost Rs 900 more i.e. Rs 2700 were paid.

  • The college purchased medical furniture/equipment worth Rs 2,31,621 from Delhi's Hi-Tech Metal & Medical Equipment Pvt. Ltd. on May 29. The purchase included a dead body deep-freezer, a stainless steel center table and a normal table.

  • Rs 20,000 were given for the table that cost Rs 11,000. The college bought five center tables at a cost of Rs 20,277 and that the GST of 18 percent was paid separately.
