Issuing the statement, U.S. Central Command said the U.S. conducted a drone strike against an Islamic State member in Nangahar believed to be involved in planning attacks against the U.S. in Kabul. The strike killed one individual and spokesman Navy Capt. William Urban said they knew of no civilian casualties.

“U.S. military forces conducted an over-the-horizon counterterrorism operation today against an ISIS-K planner. The unmanned air strike occurred in the Nangahar Province of Afghanistan. Initial indications are that we killed the target. We know of no civilian casualties,” Urban said in his statement.

Yesterday, Kabul airport shook up with the two explosions which killed 173 Afghanistan and 13 US troops. The attack in Kabul was one of the deadliest for US forces in Afghanistan in roughly a decade. A bomb went off near a gate just outside Hamid Karzai International Airport, followed by gunfire.

This comes just a day after US President Joe Biden's order to act against the Islamic states. He also vowed to strike back at the Islamic State group's Afghanistan affiliate. “We will hunt you down and make you pay,” he said.

There are roughly 5,000 US troops at Kabul's airport, helping to evacuate American citizens, at-risk Afghans, and other nationalities before Biden`s Tuesday deadline.
