Another political murder in Kerala! SFI activist stabbed to death in Idukki; police arrests Youth Congress leader

The victim, Dheeraj Rajendran, was a 21-year-old seventh-semester student of Computer Science Engineering at the college. He was killed on the college premises soon after voting for the election for the college union got over.

Hours after the brutal killing of Student Federation of India worker Dheeraj Rajendran at Government Engineering College, Idukki, Kerala police swung into action and arrested Congress worker Nikhil Paili.

The victim, Dheeraj Rajendran, was a 21-year-old seventh-semester student of Computer Science Engineering at the college. He was killed on the college premises soon after voting for the election for the college union got over. He succumbed to the injuries. Two other SFI members, Abhijith and Amal, were also critically injured and are currently hospitalised.
 
 
 
As per police, college elections are underway and, hence, there have been clashes between various student organisations in the past few days. As per the preliminary investigation, Youth Congress district leader Nikhil Paily reached the college with a group from outside and stabbed Dheeraj and others, then escaped from the campus, they said.
 
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan took to Facebook to condemn the murder of an SFI worker and said that attempts to create riots in colleges will not be tolerated.
 
 
After the SFI worker’s murder, CPM activists and its students’ wing organised protest marches across the state. This led to further clashes with Youth Congress workers. In Malappuram, Congress workers clashed with DYFI while Congress workers countered DYFI by raising slogans. In Kannur, SFI workers pelted stones at the Congress office. Windowpanes of Congress office at Thrichambaram were vandalised and flagposts dismantled.
 
Similarly, Congress office at Perambra in Kozhikode was also attacked and stones pelted. The SFI-DYFI workers also tried to vandalise Kollam MP N K Premachandran’s car at Chavara. The glasses and bonnet of the car was smashed.
