'Whitewashing' the terror incident to save terror accused? Congress' DK Shivakumar justifies Mangaluru blast accused, term blast as 'mistake'

It should be noted that this is not the first time a member of Congress has attempted to save terrorists. Earlier Congress Vice-Presidential candidate Gopalkrishna Gandhi had tried to save terror convict Yakub Memon from the death penalty in 2015.

Though it is raising questions on Indian Amry's surgical strike or defending terrorists like Yakub Menon the Mallikarjun Kharge-led Congress party has always tried to whitewash the terror incident.

Following the old habit of the party, Karnataka Congress chief DK Shivakumar gave a clean chit to the Mangalore blast accused who had ISIS connections saying the blast might have happened by 'mistake'. Shockingly, he also justified his statement by saying, Shariq's terror attack was not as big as Pulwama's or Mumbai's.

Moreover ignoring the fact that NIA has recovered jihadi materials from the house of the blast accused, DK Shivakumar asked how can one be called a terrorist without any probe

"Who are these terrorists? What action has been taken? Without investigation, how can they just call someone a terrorist? If they had gone into detail, we would know. Was it a terrorist act like something that happened in Mumbai, Delhi, or Pulwama?" DK Shivakumar questioned on Thursday.

He further continues, "There is nothing in it. Some fellows may have done some mistakes. How do you have the right to project it in a different light? They did it for votes. They wanted to steal votes."

He said, "The BJP government has no significant achievement to showcase to voters. By projecting the blast in a big way, the government wants to steal votes… Who do you call a terrorist? What was shown on TV? What was shown in the media….nothing."

Meanwhile, BJP spokesperson S Prakash slammed DK Shivakumar over his statement and demanded an apology from the Congress leader.

It should be noted that this is not the first time a member of Congress has attempted to save terrorists. Earlier Congress Vice-Presidential candidate Gopalkrishna Gandhi had tried to save terror convict Yakub Memon from the death penalty in 2015. Before Memon’s execution in 2015, Gandhi had written a letter to the President of India Pranab Mukherjee, urging the latter to "reconsider" the rejection of the mercy plea of the 1993 Mumbai serial blast convict.
