Hyderabad, May 06: A spine-chilling incident of honour killing that will surely raise questions about humanity, has come to light from the Southern state. In an incident that has sent shock waves around the nation, a Hindu Dalit man was brutally battered to death by the family of his Muslim wife just for marrying her.
More shockingly, the incident took place at around 9 PM on a busy road in Saroornagar in Hyderabad on May 4. The 25-year-old, Billapuram Nagaraju, was attacked on the iron road by her Muslim brother when the couple were travelling on their two-wheeler.
Syed Mobin Ahmed and Mohammed Masood Ahmed came on a scooter, stopped the couple on the road, and hit the Nagaraju, with an iron road on his head in full public view before stabbing him with the knife. When onlookers tried to stop them, they were threatened, police said. Nagaraju immediately succumbed to the blows. Both accused people fled from the spot after the incident. However, the police arrested both people under the relevant IPC section.
The video has gone viral on social media platforms. Viewer discretion is advised.
Notably, Nagaraj and his wife, Syed Ashrin Sulthana, were in a relationship since their school days. They got married just months ago, on January 31st, at the Arya Samaj mandir in the Old City, against the wishes of her family members. After their marriage, the couple were living in Panjala Anil Kumar Colony in Saroornagar, and Nagaraju was working as a car salesman.
While giving talking to the media, his wife also told the private media house that, Nagaraj was ready to convert to Islam just to marry him. however, his parents still refused his proposal. "He even told my mother that he will convert to Islam, but still they never accepted the proposal," Ashrin said.
Condemning the incident, Telangana BJP president and Lok Sabha MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar said Nagaraju was targeted because he married a Muslim woman and dubbed it a "religious murder." He demanded that the culprits should be identified and "the forces and organisations behind them be made public".
In a statement, he asked why the so-called secular parties and secular intellectuals were not responding to such a ghastly murder, even as he stated that his party is described as communal when it referred to certain religiously fanatic outfits allegedly indulging in 'love jihad".
