New Delhi, June 24: National Democratic Alliance's presidential candidate, Droupadi Murmu, filed her nomination paper at the Parliament Library Building, Delhi in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Union Minister Amit Shah.

The Prime Minister himself handed Droupadi Murmu’s nomination paper to Returning Officer P.C. Mody. PM Modi was Murmu's first proposer, while senior Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, and BJP president JP Nadda were the other signatories to the nomination papers.
 
Besides the complement of NDA leaders, YSR Congress' Vijaysai Reddy and BJD leader Sasmit Patra, who are not part of the alliance, were also in Parliament to back her nomination.
 
 
Ahead of the nomination filing, Draupadi Murmu made floral tributes to the statues of Mahatma Gandhi, the BR Ambedkar statue, and Birsa Munda inside the Parliament building.
 
 
Every set of nominations to a president has to have 50 proposers and 50 seconders among elected representatives. The election for the office of the President of India is scheduled for July 18 and the counting of votes, if needed, will be done on July 21.
 
The President will be elected by the Electoral College consisting of elected members of both Houses of Parliament and the Legislative Assemblies through a secret ballot. The total value of the votes of electors is 10,86,431. While the last date for filing nomination papers is June 29, the counting of votes shall take place on July 21.
 
If elected, Murmu will be the first tribal president and the second woman in the post.
