New Delhi, June 27: The opposition presidential candidate, Yashwant Sinha has filed his nomination paper at Parliament, in New Delhi, in the presence of the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, NCP supremo Sharad Pawar.
Sinha handed over four sets of nomination papers to Rajya Sabha Secretary General P C Mody, who is returning officer for the presidential election. Leaders including Congress' Mallikarjun Kharage and Jairam Ramesh accompanied him for filling the nomination. Samajwadi Party's Akhilesh Yadav and RLD chief Jayant Chaudhary were also present during the time.
Yesterday, Telangana Rashtra Samithi’s (TRS) working president and Minister KT Rama Rao also attended the nomination program. Along with Rama Rao, son of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (also known as KCR), some of the TRS MPs were also present.
It should be noted that Sinha was named as the common opposition candidate for the presidential election on June 21. The election for the office of the President of India is scheduled for July 18 and the counting of votes will be done on July 21.
Notably, the ruling NDA's presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu filed her nomination on June 24 in the presence of top leaders of the party including PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and the BJP president JP Nadda, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Chief Ministers of NDA-ruled states and NDA MLAs were also present during the nomination process.
