As per the reports, Delhi Police has granted her a license for self-protection. Sharma, in the aftermath of her controversial statement about the Prophet Mohammad, has been constantly receiving death threats. Following this, she had applied for a gun licence after she received several death threats due to her remarks.

It should be noted that Sharma has stroked controversy, by making controversial comments on Prophet Mohammed during a TV debate last year. She later unconditionally withdrew the controversial statement and said in a statement posted on Twitter that it was never her intention to hurt anyone's religious feelings.

Multiple FIRs were filed against Sharma for hurting religious sentiments and protests also broke out in several parts of the country. Following the backlash, the BJP suspended her from the party. The party also issued a statement saying that it respects all religions and strongly denounces insults to any religious personality.

Threats to behead her were also made to her in response to her distasteful remarks on the Prophet.

Not only Sharma but those who had come out in her support had also been threatened with beheading. At least two killings were linked to the controversy. Umesh Kolhe was strangled to death in Amravati. Kanhaiyalal - a tailor - was beheaded before entering his shop in Udaipur. Along with this, many other people were also threatened with dire consequences. Slogans of 'Sar Tan Se Juda' were raised during demonstrations.
