With less than two months for the World Cup at home, Team India is still experimenting and searching for the perfect eleven. There are loopholes over the middle-order which is still uncertain as well as unstable, the bowling combination is vague, and important players are expected to return from rehabs, but then there are a few youngsters who have shone in the absence of stalwarts. What would India do?

Rohit Sharma No 4

In a press conference, India captain Rohit Sharma honestly answered questions about all that is worrying his team before the mega event. "We want to win but at the same time there are a lot of questions for which we need answers," he said.

During the press statement, Rohit Sharma kept on emphasizing "no one’s spot in the team is sealed yet and everyone has to fight for slots" throughout the interaction. "We have got a lot of names there. We will see what is right combination for us to go in the World Cup but before we have the Asia Cup," he said.

Significant players like KL Rahul and Venkatesh Iyer getting injured at the wrong time might cost huge for the team. "For a long period of time, Shreyas (Iyer) has actually batted at No 4 and he has done well — his numbers are really good. Unfortunately, injuries have given him a bit of trouble; he has been out for a while and that is honestly what has happened in the last 4-5 years."

"The percentage of injuries that have happened in the last 4-5 years, it is massive. When the players get injured or not available, you try doing different things with different players — that is what I have to say about No 4," he elaborated.

About a fully-fit team, Rohit Sharma, said, "We have to see how they respond, what they do. The selection (meeting) will be in a few days, we will have a good debate about what we can do (regarding them)," he said.
With Suryakumar Yadav being an option for No.4, the captain said, "If you don’t do well in 2-3 games we are okay, but when you come off, we know that you will win games straightaway And that is what he did in the third T20I. It is important to give a batter like him the cushion of extra games so that he finds that groove and gets that confidence. But we will also have to see how long we can stretch this".
As bowling has also issues and Jasprit Bumrah being out for so long, Rohit Sharma highlighted how much spin would be vital factor in selecting the team. "I am not going to take any names of who is going to make it and who is not going to. But we know that spin is going to play a big part, considering you get a lot of help with the older ball. Who is going to play, you just wait for some time and see,” said Sharma, leaving a bit of suspense.
With all of these statements, all that remains still is suspense, uncertainty and vagueness.
