Bareilly, Mar 11: "India suffers from communal riots due to appeasement of a particular religious community by political parties", a sessions court in Bareilly said while also lauding Uttar Pradesh's Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for being the "perfect example of a religious person who holds a seat of power with dedication and sacrifice".

These remarks were made after the sessions court had summoned Barelvi sect cleric Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan, the “mastermind” of the 2010 Bareilly riot case. The court made this observation while mentioning how Raza, despite being a religious person and related to a highly reputed family of Dargah Aala Hazrat in Bareilly, indulged in provoking people of the community, disturbing law and order.

Additional Sessions Judge Ravi Kumar Diwakar observed,
"The main reason for riots in India is that the political parties here are engaged in appeasement of a particular religion, due to which the morale of prominent people of that particular religion increases so much and they believe that even if riots etc. if they get it done, not even a hair will be left unturned due to power protection."

Further, the court observed that if a religious person heads the state, he gets good results, as propounded by the philosopher Plato in his concept of the ‘Philosopher King’ in his book, Republic. It is noteworthy that in present times the word justice is used in the legal sense, whereas at the time of Plato, the word justice was used in the sense of religion, the court observed.

The court added that therefore,

“those wielding power [satta ka pramukh] should be a religious person, because the life of a religious person is not of enjoyment but of sacrifice and dedication. For example, the Siddha Peeth Gorakhnath Temple’s peethadheeshwar Mahant Baba Yogi Aditya Nath, who is presently Chief Minister of our Uttar Pradesh, has proved the above concept to be true.”

The court said that if a religious person, such as Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan, engages in activities contrary to the aforementioned concept by provoking their community, it can lead to disruptions in law and order, exemplified by the 2010 riots.

The Court, further, issued summons to Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan to appear on March 11.
