PM Modi Pays Tribute to India’s Cultural Heritage at Somnath Temple on its 75 years of restoration

 On Monday, 11th May, PM Narendra Modi held a roadshow in Gujarat’s Gir Somnath district before attending the Somnath Amrut Mahotsav, which marks 75 years of the inauguration of the restored Somnath Temple in Gujarat dedicated to Lord Shiva.

A large number of people gathered along the nearly 1.5-km route from the helipad to Veer Hamirji Circle near the temple to welcome the Prime Minister. People waved flags and raised slogans as his convoy passed by. Artists from different states, including West Bengal, performed traditional dances during the roadshow.
 
PM Modi arrived in Jamnagar on Sunday night as part of his two-day visit to Gujarat and then reached Somnath on Monday morning.

The Somnath Temple is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas and is considered a symbol of India’s faith and cultural heritage. Holding immense spiritual significance as a site where Shiva appeared as a pillar of light. It also overlooks the Arabian Sea at the confluence of three rivers (Triveni Sangam: Kapila, Hiran, and Sarasvati). It is referred to as a Shiv Purana’s ancient site. Many times it has been distorted by invaders, but the modern structure was initiated by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
 
The Somnath Amrut Mahotsav is organised to celebrate 75 years since the restored temple was inaugurated by India’s first President, Dr Rajendra Prasad, in 1951.

During his visit, the Prime Minister performed rituals such as Abhishek, Dhwaj Pooja, and Maha Pooja at the temple. Flower petals were also showered on the shrine from helicopters during the ceremonies.
Later in the day, PM Modi is scheduled to address a public gathering at Sadbhavana Ground.
