On Tuesday, 12th May, 2026, the West Bengal Police
raided the premises of TMC leader Shamim Ahmed, who has been accused of post-poll violence in Shibpur. The police discovered a hideout in the basement of the accused's premises, and discovered that Ahmed had been living a luxurious life, holding several assets and luxurious items illegally.
The video of the raids has been making the rounds on social media, in which the police can be seen inspecting the alleged illegal assets. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also shared the video and stated that the architects of violence were living like kings when the ordinary Bengalis struggled for survival. Ahmed is currently absconding from the arrest in the post-poll violence.
"When Howrah Police stormed the hideout of post-poll violence accused Shamim Ahmed alias “Borde” after the brutal Chowra Basti attacks on BJP workers in Shibpur, they didn’t find a fugitive living in fear; they uncovered a palace of corruption. Lavish interiors, obscene luxury, and a lifestyle built on terror and political protection. While ordinary Bengalis struggled for survival, the architects of violence were living like kings," the BJP Bengal said.
It is crucial to note that TMC leader Shamim Ahmed was accused of the post-poll violence that emerged in Shibpur's Chaurabasti area of Howrah on May 7th. As reported earlier, following the BJP's landslide victory, securing 206 seats to end 15 years of Trinamool Congress rule in West Bengal, eyewitnesses saw 12-15 crude bombs thrown and seven to eight gunshots near BJP Minority Morcha district president Sikandar Khan's home. It was reported at that time that TMC strongman Shamim Ahmed had orchestrated the said violence.
Over 10 BJP workers were reportedly hurt, though police confirmed one injury; heavy forces were deployed, restrictions imposed, and three were detained as tensions simmered statewide with prior deaths from unrest.
The BJP leaders and local party workers alleged that the violence erupted after alleged TMC-backed miscreants, led by Shamim Ahmed alias Bore, the husband of a TMC councillor and said to be close to a local strongman, allegedly hurled crude bombs and opened fire near the residence of BJP Minority Cell president Sikandar Khan and other BJP supporters. Several BJP workers were reportedly injured in the attack.
