Dear Abhijeet Dipke, I am a Gen Z and I am not a ‘cockroach’?

He heard the CJI’s ‘cockroach’ statement. Felt it. Misquoted it. He formed a mass movement targeting the current ruling government under the guise of upholding the principle of ‘secularism,’ but then inadvertently exposed himself by failing to remove his digital identity links connected to the AAP.

Of course, it was a deliberate move to garner the younger generation’s attention, fondly known as Gen Z. On the official website of the movement, ‘Cockroach Janata Party’, Dipke states that all those who are lazy, unemployed, constantly online, and can officially rant are eligible to be members of the party.

Unfortunately, this is how Gen Z is branded today. Even a few international reports claim that Dipke’s movement is to garner Gen Z attention and that he indirectly calls them lazy, unaware, and incapable, like just good for joining some mass movement that probably has no future, given the existence of the Indian Constitution.

Wait. Why talk about big stuff like the Indian Constitution? Let’s talk about the very basics. I am a Gen Z, and I am not lazy. I don’t like somebody calling me lazy. Period.

The point reflects the frustration many young people feel today that an entire generation is often judged too quickly without understanding the pressures, priorities, and realities they are dealing with.

When public figures or judges make remarks about an entire generation, it naturally hurts many capable young people who are already trying to survive in a difficult and chaotic world. Not every young person is involved in politics or public debates. Gen Z today are exploring career options in creativity, mental peace, or even choosing to focus on personal growth, which should not be publicly termed as laziness.

Today’s generation is growing up in a society filled with pressure, judgment, online toxicity, and constant competition. Many youths avoid unnecessary conflicts because the environment has become exhausting, not because they are unaware, incapable, careless, or irresponsible. Calling them “lazy” ignores the entire generation’s capable existence.

Gen Z is deeply interested in art, technology, entrepreneurship, creativity, and building new opportunities. They are contributing in different ways than previous generations did. Instead of constantly criticising young people, society should ask whether older systems or millennial groups and institutions are truly creating a healthy and supportive environment for them.

Here are a few instances of Gen Zs who worked wonders when their talent and creativity were backed by a supportive system-

  1. D Gukesh — Became one of the youngest global chess stars and featured in Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia 2025 for his achievements in chess.
  2. Aadit Palicha and Kaivalya Vohra — The young founders of quick-commerce company Zepto transformed India’s grocery delivery market before the age of 25.
  3. Ritesh Singh — Built an affordable AI tutor aimed at students in rural and tier-2 India, earning recognition in Forbes India 30 Under 30 2026.
  4. Aneet Padda — Emerged as one of the breakout young actors in Indian cinema after the success of Saiyaara and was featured in Forbes India 30 Under 30 2026.
  5. Samrath Singh Chadha — At just 18, gained backing from major global startup accelerators like Y Combinator and Z Fellows for his tech startup idea.
  6. Abhishek Sharma — Became a major Gen Z cricket and fashion icon through his performances and growing cultural influence among young audiences.
  7. Akash Thapa — Built a cruelty-free streetwear brand while also becoming a popular dance and social media personality at a young age.
  8. Sameer Kumar Misra — Founded initiatives promoting innovation and entrepreneurship in underserved schools and rural communities.
Every small choice Gen Z makes today is judged. Humanity and understanding seem to be disappearing. If young people mind their own business and avoid chaos, they are labelled “inactive.” But perhaps they are simply trying to protect their peace in a world that has become overwhelmingly stressful.

We might not be politically involved, but we are politically involved

Our generation may look quiet from the outside, but that does not mean we are weak or lazy. We believe more in stability, peace, creativity, and building things in our own way rather than constantly making noise about everything. The actual Gen Z may not always be socially loud, but we are deeply involved in the fields we care about.
We are rooted in our culture, but we are also modern in our thinking. We may be shy in some situations, but we do not give up until we make things work. One of the biggest strengths of this generation is acceptance, something society lacked earlier. We are more open to different people, ideas, lifestyles, and identities. We try to connect people instead of dividing them.

So, before judging today’s youth, calling them lazy as openly as they are widely called by the Cockroach Janata Party’s founder, Abhijeet Dipke, society needs to understand that hustle does not look the same anymore. Just because we work differently does not mean we are not working hard. The reality of today’s world is very different from before, and our generation is adapting to it in its own way.

Society must learn to accept that every generation evolves differently. The coming generations will be even more different, and change is a natural part of growth. Instead of mocking young people or dismissing them, people should try to understand how the world has changed and how today’s youth are trying to survive, grow, and create a better future in their own way. The current ongoing situation, which clubs the entire generation into the bracket of laziness and is adaptively branded by Dipke under the guise of ‘Cockroach Janata Party,’ is a waste of time.
