Pune: Baramati Police raids illegal cow slaughter shed, saves 3 Khillari indigenous cows; Bilal Qureshi and 2 others arrested

The police, during the operation, seized all three malnourished Khillari cows valued at around Rs 20,000 each and also seized sharp weapons and other materials allegedly used for cattle slaughter.

In the Medad area of Baramati, several Khillari indigenous cows were allegedly being held for illegal slaughter. Acting on a tip-off provided by Gorakshaks, the Malegaon Police in Pune's Baramati conducted a raid and successfully rescued the animals.
 
The incident occurred on May 17th, within the jurisdiction of Mouje Nepatvalan village, Baramati. According to police, Akshay alias Bablu Vijay Bagav, a resident of Medad, allegedly allowed one Bilal Qureshi, a resident of Baramati, to use a tin shed on his property for the illegal slaughter of cattle.

During the raid, Bapu Kondiba Thombre, also a resident of Medad, was found allegedly cleaning blood stains from the premises in what police believe was an attempt to destroy evidence. Outside the shed, three Khillari indigenous cows were found tied with ropes in a visibly malnourished state, with no adequate food or water provided, and were allegedly being held for slaughter.
 

Inside the shed, police reportedly recovered pieces of bovine meat, implements used for slaughter, and other incriminating materials. Taking cognizance of the event, the Malegaon Police filed an FIR against Bilal Qureshi, Akshay alias Bablu Vijay Bagav, and Bapu Kondiba Thombre under Sections 238, 325, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, sections 11(1)(H) and 11(1)(I) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, and Sections 5, 5(C)(B), 9, and 11 of the Maharashtra Animal Preservation Act, 1976.
 

The complainant in the case is Vaibhav Sunil Thorat (Gorakshak), age 26, resident of Baramati Hospital area, Baramati. His associates Vedant Shikshit, Pranay Waghmare, Kiran Kamble, Aditya Bhosale, and Viraj Avdhute allegedly gathered information about the incident and informed the police, leading to the action.
