Mohammad Farman, a resident of Deoband in Uttar Pradesh, has been
arrested after he assumed a false Hindu identity to deceive a Hindu woman from Dehradun, Uttarakhand. Farman reportedly introduced himself as a Hindu, "Aman Tomar" or "Aman Sharma," and lived in Dehradun's Chakrata area while working as a mason under this disguised identity. He
used a fake Hindu profile on Instagram to establish contact with a Hindu woman from Chakrata, and later purportedly blackmailed her into converting her religion to Islam.

The incident came to light when the woman's husband
discovered Farman with his wife during his visit to her parental home. Upon being caught, Farman allegedly attempted to hide in a cowshed but was eventually apprehended. He then reportedly used abusive and casteist language towards the victim and her husband. Following this, a formal complaint was filed with the police, who subsequently registered a case under 10 serious legal sections and took Farman into custody.
Hindu leader Rakesh Tomar Uttarakhandi, founder of Rashtriya Sena, took cognizance of the event and said that Farman had allegedly targeted over 130 Hindu women across Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh through similar deceptive means. Tomar also alleged that objectionable photos and videos involving Hindu women were recovered from Farman's mobile phone, and that the accused had operated multiple social media accounts to carry out his alleged activities.
As per the
reports, around 130 Hindu women have been trapped by the accused using the same means. Mohammad Farman worked as a preacher in Deoband. He would approach Hindu women through Instagram and then invite them to Deoband. Later, he would blackmail the women using their private videos. After that, Farman would force the women to convert to Islam.
Police, during the investigation, recovered evidence from Farman’s mobile phone showing that he had trapped about 130 women. During interrogation, police also recovered chats and videos related to Farman’s interactions with the women.
A similar incident came to the fore on May 25 in the state of Uttarakhand. A man named Anas was
arrested for creating a fake Instagram profile under the Hindu name "Ansh Rana" to deceive a 16-year-old Hindu girl, whom he subsequently sexually assaulted.
A local vegetable vendor, Mohammad Junaid, was also implicated for allegedly facilitating the crime by arranging hotel accommodation for the accused without verifying identification documents. A detailed report regarding the same can be read
