On Monday, 26th May, the Allahabad High Court granted bail to a man accused of posting allegedly anti-India and pro-Pakistan content on social media, including posts targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The order was passed on Monday by Justice Rajiv Lochan Shukla while hearing the bail plea of Tahir Mewati, a resident of Bulandshahr district in Uttar Pradesh.
According to the prosecution, the accused was operating a Facebook account that allegedly shared objectionable posts, images, and captions aimed at defaming the Prime Minister and promoting pro-Pakistan views.
The material presented before the Court reportedly included edited and derogatory images showing the Prime Minister in humiliating situations, including visuals of him being tied up and dragged by former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan.
The prosecution also claimed that the posts contained captions and Urdu text supporting Pakistan and had the potential to disturb public order and communal harmony. Authorities relied on digital and electronic evidence allegedly linking the accused to the Facebook account.

During the hearing, the State informed the Court that a mobile phone allegedly used to operate the account had been recovered from the accused. Investigators also referred to IP address records, linked mobile numbers, email IDs, login details, and forensic data to establish his connection with the account.
The accused, however, argued that the Facebook profile was fake and had been created by an unknown person to damage his reputation and falsely implicate him in the case.
After hearing both sides and examining the material on record, the High Court ordered the release of the accused on bail, subject to conditions set by the trial court.
