Five Bangladeshi Nationals Held in Delhi for Illegal Overstay

New Delhi, 30 May : Delhi Police have detained five Bangladeshi nationals in North West Delhi for allegedly staying in India after their visas had expired. Reports suggest that the individuals were living in the Mukherjee Nagar area and were waiting for overseas job opportunities. They were identified and apprehended during a police verification drive.

How were they traced?
 
According to police, the action began after local residents reported two men speaking in Bangla during a minor altercation, raising suspicions about their identity. A police team was formed to verify their documents and residential status.
 
During the investigation, the two men were found to be living in a rented accommodation in Indira Vikas Colony, Mukherjee Nagar, along with three other Bangladeshi nationals. Police have shared that all five had entered India legally through the air route on different dates but continued to stay in Delhi even after their visas had expired.
 
The five apprehended Bangladeshi nationals identify as Rahmat Ullah (23), Mohd Ashraful (23), Salman Bhuiyan (25), Md Rashel (37), and Md Rahim Mia (33).

The Investigation led to…
 
The individuals were reportedly waiting for employment opportunities in Greece and had been staying illegally in Delhi since December 2025 while awaiting job offers or interview calls.
 
Further inquiry revealed that they had initially stayed at various hotels in Delhi before shifting to Mukherjee Nagar with the help of an associate from West Bengal. Police are now trying to trace and apprehend the associate for further investigation.
 
The five foreign nationals have been produced before the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), and deportation proceedings have been initiated. Necessary legal action has also been taken in accordance with the law.
