The West Bengal Police on Wednesday, May 6th, conducted a raid at a party office linked to TMC leader and Narayanpur Panchayat chief Salauddin Sardar in the Ghutiyari Sharif area of West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district. During the operation, officers reportedly recovered around 18 sharp weapons from the premises.\\
The incident has triggered political controversy in the region, with opposition parties and netizens questioning the presence of weapons inside a political office. Police have started an investigation into the matter, and further legal action may follow based on the findings.
This is reportedly after the BJP secured a landslide victory in the state elections. In a significant blow to the Trinamool Congress, the BJP won the West Bengal Assembly elections, winning 206 seats in the 294-member Assembly and ending Mamata Banerjee's 15-year rule. Mamata Banerjee dealt with a double blow on May 4 as she was defeated by her aide-turned-rival, BJP Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari in her home constituency, Bhabanipur, by a margin of over 15,000 votes.
After the results, the violence against the BJP in the state has increased. On May 5, a BJP worker identified as Jadav Bar was
lynched to death by a group of people affiliated with the Trinamool Congress while he was on his way home in Udaynarayanpur in West Bengal's Howrah district. As reported earlier by Newsbharati, the BJP worker was celebrating the party's win with other party cadres as trends from the Election Commission suggested that the BJP was on its way to wrest power from the TMC.
