Party sources claimed that the incident took place in the Gotra area of Basirhat after a clash broke out over putting up a party flag. Video of the incident has been making rounds on social media.
The victim, Rohit Roy, was moved to the Basirhat state-run hospital, with bullet injuries in his abdominal area, where his condition was stated to be critical but stable. (BJP worker Rohit Roy shot)
In a video footage circulated by the party’s media cell, Roy was heard alleging he was shot by three miscreants from among a group of 8-10 TMC workers when he, along with a few others, was putting up BJP flags in his locality.
This is hours after the personal assistant of West Bengal BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari was
shot dead in Madhyamgram, just two days after the party’s historic victory in the assembly elections. The victim, identified as Chandranath Rath, was travelling in a moving car when assailants in another vehicle allegedly followed him and opened fire. It is important to note that several BJP workers, like
Madhu Mondal and
Jadav Bar, were also brutally murdered, allegedly by the TMC workers, for celebrating the landslide victory of the BJP in the state. These incidents have sent shockwaves across the state and political parties.
