On Thursday, May 7, a novel case of 'Love Jihad' emerged from the Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh. The victim complained that a man identified as Shadab had introduced himself to her as “Ankush” and concealed his religious identity while developing a close relationship with her. According to the complaint, he later proposed marriage, but shortly before the wedding, his real identity was exposed. It was also learned that the accused forced the woman to convert to Islam.
The victim submitted a written complaint at Chandpur Police Station on May 2. In her complaint, she stated that Shadab, a resident of Kamalpur village, had befriended her while pretending to be Hindu. She said that after gaining her trust and establishing a relationship, he proposed marriage. However, just before the marriage was to take place, he made religious conversion a condition, at which point she came to know that “Ankush” was actually Shadab.
The victim further stated that when she refused to convert, Shadab verbally abused her and threatened to leak obscene photographs and videos of her.
She also accused Shadab's alleged associates, Shahzad, Afsar, and Faheem of misconduct, stating that they behaved inappropriately with her and physically assaulted her.
Based on the written complaint, the police registered an FIRunder relevant legal sections and initiated an investigation into the matter. Chandpur Police arrested the main accused, Shadab, while search operations are ongoing to trace the other accused individuals involved in the case. Police officials stated that the remaining accused will be arrested soon.
