The police's crackdown against criminals in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad district continues in full force. Following the encounter with the accused in the Surya murder case, the police on June 1 arrested Mohammad Siraj, the accused in the rape of a 13-year-old minor girl in the Loni area, after a shootout. During the exchange of fire, the accused was shot in his right leg and has since been admitted to a hospital for treatment.

A woman residing in a colony under the Loni Border police station limits had filed a complaint on May 30. According to the woman, Siraj, her neighbor had sexually assaulted her 13-year-old daughter approximately three months ago.
 
The accused also had threatened the child, warning her that he would kill her if she told anyone about the assault. The incident came to light when the girl's health suddenly deteriorated, and her family took her to a doctor. Upon returning home, when the family questioned her, she revealed the entire ordeal to her mother. It was also discovered that the girl was three months pregnant after the assault. 
 
 

According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (Ankur Vihar) Siddharth Gautam, acting on the family's complaint, the police immediately registered a case under the POCSO Act and launched a search for the accused, who had gone absconding after the incident.
 
 
 

Early Monday morning, June 1, a police team was conducting vehicle checks on Sevadhaam Teela Mod Road when a young man was spotted approaching on a scooter. When the police signaled him to stop, he attempted to flee toward the GDA Ground. In his panic, he lost control, and the scooter skidded and fell. Finding himself surrounded, the accused opened fire on the police team. In the retaliatory action, Md Siraj was shot in his right leg and was apprehended on the spot.
 

Upon learning of the incident, local MLA Nandkishor Gurjar also visited the victim's family at their home. He assured them of every possible support and promised that the strictest possible action would be taken against the accused. The police recovered a country-made pistol, some cartridges, and the scooter from the encounter site. During interrogation, the accused, Siraj, a resident of Amit Vihar (Loni Border), confessed to the crime. The police have since registered a case against him under the Arms Act, along with other relevant sections, and have intensified further legal proceedings.
