On Thursday, June 25, Siya Goyal and her alleged lover Chetan Chaudhary, accused of pushing her fiancé Ketan Agarwal to his death in a valley at Lohagad Fort near Pune, were made to sit across from each other during an intense joint interrogation session that continued well into the night. Both accused have been remanded to seven-day police custody.

Investigations revealed that Siya had been romantically involved with Chetan, whom she first encountered at a business meeting last year. While Siya ran a bakery, Chetan operated a dry fruit business. Their relationship developed in November 2025, even as Siya's engagement with Ketan was progressing and both families were actively preparing for the wedding.

Chetan reportedly resented Ketan's presence in Siya's life and considered him a hurdle. Police allege the two conspired to eliminate him. In a related development, Pune Police have detained Neeraj Kumar, an employee at Chetan's shop, for questioning over his alleged connection to the case. Investigators suspect Chetan borrowed Neeraj's phone on June 18, the day of the murder, and used it to make multiple calls to Siya at the fort. Kumar had been associated with Chetan for approximately three years.

Ketan Agarwal, the young son of a prominent Maharashtra businessman, had gotten engaged to Siya in February. A lavish wedding, reportedly involving private jets and palace venues, had been planned for November. However, a series of sinister events preceded his death. During a planned trip to Bali for a pre-wedding photoshoot, Ketan discovered his passport was missing upon reaching Mumbai airport. His father has alleged that Siya deliberately concealed the passport to sabotage the trip.

Subsequently, during a visit to Lohagad Fort on June 14, Siya made a first attempt on Ketan's life by pushing him, but he survived by grabbing onto a bush on the cliff face. To deflect suspicion, she created a diversion by screaming about a snake she claimed to have spotted, and then embraced him as though concerned for his safety. She then persuaded Ketan to return to the same fort four days later under the guise of a casual outing. This time, Chetan was also present at the location. The two allegedly pushed Ketan from behind into the gorge on June 18, resulting in his death.

Police grew suspicious after scrutinising surveillance footage from the fort, which showed victim Ketan Agarwal walking alongside his fiancée Siya Goyal. Trailing them at a deliberate distance was another individual, subsequently identified as 22-year-old Chetan Choudhary, believed to be Siya's secret lover. What immediately struck investigators was his conspicuous choice of clothing. On a day when temperatures at the fort hovered around 33°C, Chetan was captured on camera wearing shorts paired with a hoodie pulled up to conceal most of his face, and notably, he had a headset worn over the hoodie. The oddly mismatched outfit, seemingly designed to avoid identification, ended up doing precisely the opposite, drawing the attention of investigators and setting the inquiry in motion.

According to police, the CCTV footage revealed that Chetan had been deliberately maintaining a gap of roughly 20 to 30 feet behind the couple throughout the trek, never closing in, never falling too far behind. His suspicious attire prompted investigators to dig deeper into the case. A police official told PTI that technical analysis established a strong link between Siya and Chetan, pointing toward a meticulously planned conspiracy. Investigators then combed through photographs and social media profiles associated with Chetan, and cross-referenced them with the CCTV visuals of the hooded individual at the fort. The comparison helped police zero in on him as a key suspect.

Siya's demeanour in the aftermath of Ketan's death also raised red flags. Investigators noted that she displayed little to no grief, which one would naturally expect from someone who had just lost their fiancé. During questioning, Ketan's uncle further revealed that Siya had previously expressed reservations about going ahead with the marriage and had even floated the idea of delaying the wedding by a year.

As the investigation deepened, the extent of communication between the two accused came to light, and the numbers were striking. Over the course of just seven months, Siya and Chetan had exchanged a staggering 2,004 phone calls, collectively speaking for nearly 238 hours in total, a level of contact that investigators say left little doubt about the nature and depth of their relationship.
