TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee suspended from Lok Sabha over 'Unparliamentary language' against woman MP

Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kalyan Banerjee was suspended from the Lok Sabha for the remainder of the Monsoon Session on Wednesday after he allegedly used "unparliamentary language" against a woman Member of Parliament during a heated exchange inside the House.
The suspension was approved through a voice vote after Presiding Officer Krishna Prasad Tenneti informed the House that Banerjee's remarks had "hurt the dignity of the House." Following the adoption of the motion, Tenneti directed Banerjee to immediately leave the precincts of the Lok Sabha.

The resolution was passed amid continued sloganeering by Opposition members over the NEET paper leak and other issues. Soon after the suspension, the House was adjourned for the day.
The incident occurred earlier in the day after the Lok Sabha was adjourned amid Opposition protests. Banerjee was involved in a verbal altercation with his former Trinamool Congress colleagues who are now members of the Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI).
The NCPI MPs involved in the exchange included Mitali Bagh, Shatabdi Roy and Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar. The exact reason behind the confrontation was not immediately known.

According to parliamentary sources, several Opposition MPs intervened to calm the situation. Banerjee subsequently left the House after being questioned by fellow Opposition members about the incident.
Following the altercation, Mitali Bagh, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar and other NCPI MPs met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla in his chamber to raise the matter and seek action.
The confrontation comes against the backdrop of the political split within the Trinamool Congress. After the party's defeat in the West Bengal Assembly elections, 20 TMC MPs revolted against the leadership of Mamata Banerjee and joined the NCPI. Since then, they have been seated separately from the remaining TMC members in the Lok Sabha.
Banerjee has remained with the Trinamool Congress under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee.
The Monsoon Session of Parliament is scheduled to continue until August 13.
