A two-year-old boy
died in Pune's Loni Kalbhor area after accidentally falling into a rainwater-filled pit dug for sewage work, prompting accusations of
negligence against a private contractor.
The child, identified as Soham Lakhan Kasbe, was playing outside his home when he reportedly slipped into one of several open pits excavated for sewage and stormwater drainage work. Family members pulled him out and rushed him to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
Residents claim that four pits at the site had been left open, with no covering, barricading, or warning signs in place. Following a complaint from the boy's family, Loni Kalbhor Police have filed a case against an as-yet-unnamed contractor. Authorities are now investigating whether negligence was responsible for the child's death.
