'Active and Operational': Delhi Police denies rumors claiming 'Jantar Mantar locked or closed for demonstrations after CJP protest

On Thursday, July 30, the Delhi Police issued a clarification calling out rumors spreading on social media indicating that the Jantar Mantar ground, where the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) led the protest against the alleged NEET paper leak scam, had been locked permanently. "These claims are entirely false, misleading, and devoid of facts," Delhi Police said in a clear note published on its official social media accounts.
Several social media accounts on July 29 spread rumors saying that Jantar Mantar had been barricaded, locked up, and shut down for protests. "The government is giving a clear signal that enough is enough with respect. No one will be granted political martyrdom- take that as given," one of the posts on social media read.
Another by PTI stated that, "Delhi police welds barricades at Jantar Mantar after Cockroach Janata Party's protest."
"Jantar Mantar has been blocked for upcoming protests. Amit Shah: "Enough is Enough," another post on social media read.
"Barricades have been set up at Jantar Mantar; it has been locked and shut down for protests. The government is clearly signalling enough is enough with dignity," another post read.
Following this, the Delhi Police on July 30 stated that Jantar Mantar had not been blocked and that it remains operational even after the CJP protests that recently concluded with Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigning. "It is officially clarified that Jantar Mantar remains an active and authorized site for peaceful and authorized demonstrations," the Delhi Police said on social media.

"As per the Hon'ble Supreme Court Order and the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) issued by the Delhi Police thereupon in compliance of it, a maximum of 1,000 persons may be permitted at the venue. This permission is granted by the competent authority upon formal application by the concerned organizers or individual(s), subject to adherence to prescribed terms and conditions. Citizens are strongly advised not to believe or circulate unverified information and to rely strictly on official communications for accurate updates," it added.
It is important to understand that the CJP protest leaves behind 60 metric tonnes of garbage at Jantar Mantar. The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) had to deploy over 500 officers and employees in an overnight operation to clean the ground. The operation was conducted jointly by the Health and Sanitation, Civil Engineering, and Horticulture Departments.
