IPS trainee accused of sexually harassing colleague in Hyderabad arrested; details

On Friday, July 31, a trainee IPS officer, accused of sexually assaulting a female co-trainee at a police training academy, was arrested by the Hyderabad Police in Andhra Pradesh. M Uday Krishna Reddy (33), hailing from Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh, who was booked on July 18 for sexual assault, sexual harassment, stalking, and threatening a fellow woman trainee at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA), was also produced before a court today.
During his time training at LBSNAA and later at SVPNPA, the relationship was reportedly troubled by constant disputes, emotional coercion, controlling behavior, and instability, police said.
"Unable to tolerate his behavior any longer, the victim ended the relationship and went on to marry someone else," police said. Upon learning of this, the accused allegedly created fake social media accounts after being blocked, threatened to expose private chats, and contacted her family members and colleagues without consent, continuing a pattern of offences corroborated by the victim's account and statements from other witnesses, officials added.
He was subsequently apprehended on the night of July 28 near Aramghar X Roads and questioned by investigators, with the arrest carried out in line with due legal process. Police noted that further investigation is ongoing to establish the complete facts of the case, and that appropriate legal proceedings are being pursued in accordance with the law.
The operation was conducted by a special team constituted by the Hyderabad Commissioner of Police, functioning under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Women Safety Wing) P Lavanya Naik Jadav, the statement noted. After the case was registered, the accused had taken to social media to dismiss the allegations as "baseless" and had also moved the Telangana High Court, seeking to have the FIR against him quashed. The court, on Wednesday, adjourned the hearing to a date four weeks later.
According to a statement released by Hyderabad Police, the accused has been sent to judicial custody for a period of 14 days. Before joining the IPS in 2025 after clearing the UPSC examination, he had previously served as a police constable. Since December 2025, he had been undergoing training at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA).
Police said the accused first got in touch with the victim, also an IPS trainee, through social media in mid-2025, after she responded to a post he had made about his journey toward securing selection into the Indian Police Service. As their conversations progressed and contact details were exchanged, a bond developed around discussions of his modest background, eventually leading the two into an alleged relationship.

Based on the complaint filed, Attapur police registered a case invoking relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita covering assault or criminal force against a woman with intent to outrage her modesty, sexual harassment, stalking, and insulting a woman's modesty through words, gestures, or actions, along with applicable provisions under the Information Technology Act. Police said the investigation confirmed the trainee officer's involvement in the alleged offences.
