On Sunday, July 5, Police in Ballia district, Uttar Pradesh,
registered a case against a man following a complaint from his Dalit domestic help, who accused him of raping her under the pretext of marriage and later pressuring her to convert her religion.
The woman,
employed at the accused's home for several years, alleged that he signed a "written marriage agreement" with her five years ago, when she was 17, promising to formalize the marriage once she turned 20. She claimed the abuse began even earlier, with the man molesting her and forcing sexual acts on her before that agreement.
Based on her complaint, police booked Jalaluddin (24) under relevant provisions of the BNS, including rape, as well as the POCSO Act and the SC/ST Act.

According to a police official, the woman stated that Jalaluddin had hired her for domestic work, knowing she was poor and orphaned, and exploited that vulnerability. She alleged he gradually escalated from molestation to a full physical relationship, and that when she threatened to expose him, he had her sign a marriage agreement on August 10, 2021, assuring her he'd officially marry her and give her a property share once she came of age.
When she later pushed him to honor that promise, she was allegedly pressured to change her religion, and when she resisted, she began receiving threats to her life. She further stated that the sexual exploitation had actually started back in 2017 and that Jalaluddin is now planning to marry another woman.
Rasra Circle Officer Rajnish confirmed the case was filed based on the woman's complaint, adding that her statement is being recorded before a local court in Ballia as police conduct a thorough investigation.
