A video circulating online from Jharkhand shows senior journalist Aman Chopra being harassed by Jharkhand Police while covering the ongoing student protests in Ranchi. The police are also believed to have filed an FIR against Chopra. The footage, which shows Chopra, a senior journalist with the Network 18 group, allegedly being approached by police officers as he was having breakfast, has gone viral.
Meanwhile, JPSC protest leader Devendra Nath Mahto, who has been on a hunger strike, joined the march after arriving in an ambulance and was later seen being carried by supporters on a stretcher as he headed toward the Assembly.
In the clip, Chopra can be heard calmly questioning the officers about why he's being asked to accompany them for questioning. Later visuals show him pressing the police for a reason behind what he describes as his detention, while officers can be heard remarking that "his acts have been disrupting their duty."
BJP's Amit Malviya slammed the Hemant Soren government for targeting Chopra, alleging that Jharkhand Police showed up at his hotel and took him in for questioning. Posting the video, Malviya questioned why action was being taken against a journalist reporting on the student protests, and asked why police appeared more focused on questioning media personnel than on maintaining order during the demonstrations.

These allegations surface as student protests continue to escalate in Ranchi over claims of irregularities in recruitment exams conducted by the JPSC and JSSC. Demonstrators, organised under the JPSC-JSSC Reforms Manch, resumed their march towards the state Assembly on Monday, marking the 17th day of the agitation. Their key demands include scrapping certain recruitment exams and launching a CBI investigation into the alleged malpractice.
Ranchi witnessed a heavy police presence as protesters assembled at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium before setting off towards the Assembly building. Several BJP figures, including former chief minister Babulal Marandi and state BJP president Aditya Sahu, were also detained while protesting outside CM Hemant Soren's residence.
