PM Modi Meets Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov, Reaffirms Strategic Partnership

Bishkek [Kyrgyzstan], August 31: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Kyrgyz Republic President Sadyr Zhaparov on Monday on the sidelines of the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Bishkek, with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to further strengthen the strategic partnership between India and Kyrgyzstan.
Prime Minister Modi congratulated President Zhaparov and the people of Kyrgyzstan on the country’s Independence Day, noting that the occasion gave special significance to the opening of the SCO Summit on the same day. He also congratulated Zhaparov for successfully hosting the 26th SCO Summit.
During the meeting, the two leaders reviewed the progress made in bilateral relations and discussed ways to expand cooperation in key areas.
They agreed to further strengthen economic and commercial ties, taking into account the complementarities between the economies of India and Kyrgyzstan. The discussions also focused on strengthening people-to-people connections between the two countries.
The leaders highlighted the importance of student exchanges and cultural collaborations in deepening mutual understanding and strengthening long-standing ties between the two nations.

Prime Minister Modi also highlighted India’s active participation in the various meetings conducted under the Kyrgyz Republic’s SCO Chairmanship.
He said India’s strong engagement reflected the mutual respect, trust and support that have characterised the close and longstanding relationship between India and Kyrgyzstan.

The discussions come as India continues to strengthen its engagement with Central Asian countries, with Kyrgyzstan remaining an important partner in the region.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Prime Minister Modi thanked President Sadyr Zhaparov for his warmth and hospitality and congratulated him for the successful conduct of the SCO Summit.
The meeting underscored the shared commitment of India and Kyrgyzstan to deepen their Strategic Partnership, expand economic engagement and strengthen cultural and people-to-people ties in the years ahead.
