India Opens Asian Games 2026 Campaign With Two Shooting Silver Medals

New Delhi , September 21 : India made a strong start to its campaign at the Asian Games 2026, winning two silver medals in shooting on the opening day of competition.

Elavenil Valarivan, Sonam Maskar and Vidarsa Vinod won the silver medal in the women’s 10m air rifle team event. Elavenil also secured a silver medal in the individual event, adding another medal to India’s tally.
In cricket, the Indian women’s team reached the gold medal match after defeating Bangladesh by 114 runs. India will now face Sri Lanka in the final.
 
 
India also secured its first-ever Asian Games medal in mixed martial arts, with Suchika Tariyal reaching the semi-finals of the women’s Traditional 60kg category. Her place in the last four has assured India of a medal in the event.
The Indian hockey teams also began their campaigns with big victories. The men’s team defeated Indonesia 13-1, while the women’s team registered a 19-0 win over Uzbekistan in their opening pool matches.
 
In badminton, the Indian women’s team defeated Kazakhstan 3-0 to advance to the quarter-finals. They will next face hosts Japan.

India recorded mixed results in table tennis. The women’s team defeated Indonesia 3-0 and Singapore 3-2, while the men’s team beat Indonesia 3-0 but suffered a 0-3 defeat against Iran.
 
In swimming, Rishabh Das finished sixth in the men’s 100m backstroke final with a timing of 54.77 seconds.
India’s strong opening across shooting, cricket, hockey, badminton, table tennis, MMA and swimming has set the tone for its Asian Games 2026 campaign.
