New Delhi, September 28: A purported leaked recording of an online discussion involving supporters of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has triggered questions over the strategy behind the organisation’s proposed nationwide agitation against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The participant reportedly links this claim to the planned October 2 mobilisation, saying that the issue of SIR would be taken up and that the exercise would be “boycotted” and stopped.
In another portion of the purported discussion, the same participant allegedly claims that the CJP has a nationwide legal network of around 2,000 lawyers. The discussion reportedly focuses particularly on providing legal assistance to CJP workers in Odisha and dealing with possible FIRs arising from protests.
More significantly, on September 25, Dipke publicly called upon opposition parties to stop contesting elections if they genuinely believe that the electoral process is being rigged. He argued that continuing to participate gives legitimacy to elections that they themselves describe as unfair.
Dipke compared the situation to a fixed cricket match, arguing that even a manipulated election could be made to appear competitive by allowing the opposition to win some seats. He questioned whether opposition parties were continuing to participate because they feared political extinction if they stayed away. The combination of these public statements and the contents attributed to the leaked discussion gives the controversy a wider dimension.
The recording, circulated online on September 27, allegedly features CJP supporters discussing legal, organisational and media support for the proposed October 2 protests. The most significant claim in the recording is a reference to the possibility of a political upheaval similar to events in Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
According to the report, a participant identified as Rakesh claims that between 300 and 500 Supreme Court lawyers would be available to provide legal support to CJP protesters if the government initiated action against them. He is further heard claiming that if the government “touches” CJP protesters, it could collapse within 30 days, referring to political upheavals in Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

The participants also reportedly refer to CJP leaders including founder Abhijeet Dipke, national spokesperson Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka.
On September 24, Dipke demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and threatened a nationwide agitation beginning October 2 if the demand was not met. The proposed protest is being presented by CJP as a campaign to “save democracy” and oppose alleged manipulation of electoral rolls. Reuters and Al Jazeera have also reported CJP’s October 2 protest plans.
