US bleeds on its Independence Day! 6 dead, dozens injured in shooting at July 4th parade in Chicago suburb

Chicago, July 05: At least 6 people were killed and more than two dozens wounded in a mass shooting that took place during the Independence Day parade in the wealthy suburb of Highland Park outside Chicago, Illinois. The July 4 shooting was just the latest to shatter the rituals of American life.

Hours after the incident, police took a man into custody. He was identified as 22-year-old Robert E Crimo III.

Christopher Covelli, a spokesperson for the Lake County Major Crime Task Force, told reporters the attacker apparently used a “high-powered rifle” to fire from a spot atop a building where he was “very difficult to see”.“Very random, very intentional and a very sad day,” he said.
 
 
 
 
“Our community was terrorised by an act of violence that has shaken us to our core. Our hearts go out to the families of the victims during this devastating time,” Mayor Nancy Rotering told reporters on Monday afternoon. 
 
Reacting to the July 4 shooting incident, the US President said he was shocked by the gun violence that has yet again brought grief to an American community on Independence Day. He again called gun violence-- an epidemic and said he would not give up fighting against it. In a tweet followed by the incident, Biden thanked the law enforcement agencies which had responded to the incident.

The shooting comes as the United States struggles to stem a surge in gun violence and after a string of recent deadly incidents, including a massacre at a Texas primary school, has renewed calls for stricter gun regulations in the country.
