Correcting Uddhav regime's move, Shinde govt decides to rename Mumbai's Tipu Sultan Maidan

It should be reminded that last year, Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government decided to name the sports complex in Mumbai after 18th-century ruler Tipu Sultan.

Mumbai, January 28: Revising the decision taken by the erstwhile Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi government, the Shinde-Fadnavis government has decided to rename a Mumbais' public garden named after controversial 18th-century ruler Tipu Sultan.

The decision was announced by Mangal Prabhat Lodha, Mumbai’s Suburban District Guardian Minister on the micro-blogging site Twitter. He ordered the Collector to rename the garden in Malad. Lodha described this move as a “victory of right”.

Lodha took to Twitter to share the development and wrote," Finally, the victory of the Right! Ordered removal of name Tipu Sultan from the park in Malad after considering the protests by Sakal Hindu Samaj & demand by @iGopalShetty Ji in the DPDC meeting. Last year MVA govt had named the ground after Tipu Sultan and we had to protest it!"

The order was implemented peacefully without any police deployment. The locals, too, extended their full cooperation," reported him as saying.

It should be reminded that last year, Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government decided to name the sports complex in Mumbai after 18th-century ruler Tipu Sultan. At that time the BJP opposed the Shiv Sena-led BMC's decision to rename the garden after Tipu Sultan. The BJP has cited how Tipu Sultan had demolished several Hindu temples and committed atrocities on women during his rule. He is also responsible for his brutal onslaught against the Hindu community and forcibly converting them to Islam, they have alleged.
