FIFA-17 World Cup: Germany, USA stormed into quarterfinals after dominant win over their opponents

New Delhi, October 17: Germany and the United States of America on Monday stormed into the quarterfinals of the FIFA-17 World Cup after registering a dominant victory over their respective opponents in the Round of Sixteen encounters.

 

In the first match of the day, played at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi Germany produced a combination of sublime skills and brute power as they laid bare Colombia’s defensive frailties with a clinical 4-0 victory in their pre-quarterfinal match in the Fifa U-17 World Cup


Captain Jann-Fiete Arp struck twice while Yann Bisseck and John Yeboah scored a goal each to help Germany reach the quarterfinals. Germany, who finished as a runner-up way back in the first edition in 1985, will now face the winners of the pre-quarterfinal match between Brazil and Honduras on October 18 in Kochi in the quarterfinals to be played in Kolkata on October 22.


Meanwhile, the United States of America outclassed Paraguay by 5-0. During the match, a splendid hat-trick by striker Tim Weah led his team to register a comprehensive victory over Paraguay. However, in a fast-paced encounter, the Americans put up their best performance of the tournament to make it to their sixth quarterfinals of the Under-17 showpiece event.


The USA, will now play the winner the pre-quarterfinal match between England and Japan. The quarterfinal will be held Margao on October 21. On the other side, four pre-quarterfinal fixtures are slated for Tuesday. Iran will take on Mexico while Mali is pitted against Iraq in Goa. In Guwahati, France will meet Spain while England will face Japan in Kolkata.
