Vijayawada, Nov 15: Expressing concern over the delay in most anticipated National irrigation project of Polavaram, BJP leader and former Union Minister Daggubati Purandeswari demanded that state government must clear the outstanding bills of Contractors and subcontractors for time-bound completion of the project.

Addressing a presser at BJP office here the senior leader stated that central government officials were not aware of the reported cost escalation, she mentioned that  Andhra Pradesh government should maintain clarity on various developments related to Polavaram.

Informing about the recent meeting with Union Irrigation Minister Nitin Gadkari and Special Secretary for Polavaram Amarjit Singh, Purandeswari assured that central government would extend all the support and resources for the mega national project. She reiterated that the project would be completed by 2019.

Commenting on the slow pace of the project, Purandeswari urged TDP government to open escrow accounts to facilitate the smooth transfer of money into the accounts of Transtroy and the sub-contractors. The former minister underlined that Centre was not against the move of change in contractor but was opposed to the shelving of important portions of the construction other than Transstroy.
