Mine of Antiquities: Tombs dating back to 3500 years found in Egypt

Cairo, December 10: Egypt can be said the biggest museum of antiques on this earth. Archaeologists keep finding new discoveries in the country. Adding one more to the long list, Archeologists have found a mummy dating back to 3500 years along with several other old items in one unexplored tomb. The discoveries continuously boost country’s tourism as ancient Egypt civilization till today attracts several people.

Two tombs have been unearthed on the west bank of the Nile in Luxor. One of it was already explored but not complete. Egypt’s Ministry of Antiquity announced the discovery on Saturday. Both tombs contain very rich funerary collections, and one of them has a very distinguished painted statue of a lady in the Osirian shape.

The tombs were named by German Egyptologist Friederike Kampp-Seyfried as he surveyed and numbered the tombs in the 1990s. The tomb known as Kampp 161 was never opened, while the other tomb identified as Kampp 150 was only excavated to its entrance.

“Our ancestors, the pharaohs, are still doing their job in developing the country,” said Egypt’s Minister of Antiquities Khaled Al-Anany when announcing the discovery. “Through these discoveries, they are still giving us a hand in raising the Egyptian economy and reestablishing tourism, due to the positive impact they have internationally,” he added. Egypt’s Minister has termed 2017 as year of modern discoveries.
