Pyongyang, December 22: One of the worst manmade disasters of this year was WannaCry ransom war. This cybersecurity threat shook over 150 countries worldwide. Recently the United States claimed a link between WannaCry with North Korean leadership. Regarding that claim, North Korea totally got aggressive and denied any link.

A spokesperson for North Korea’s foreign ministry said Thursday that Pyongyang wasn’t responsible for the WannaCry crisis. State-run media of North Korea Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported the official comment of denying. The country claimed the US is doing it purposefully as it is trying to come up with tougher resolutions on North Korea.

"As we have clearly stated on several occasions, we have nothing to do with cyber-attack and we do not feel a need to respond, on a case-by-case basis, to such absurd allegations of the U.S.," a spokesman told. "This move is a grave political provocation by the U.S. aimed at inducing the international society into a confrontation against the DPRK," he added.

The cyberattacks spread rapidly around the globe using a security flaw in Microsoft’s Windows XP operating system, an older version that is no longer given mainstream tech support by the US giant. The malware, known as “WannaCry”, locks access to user files and in an on-screen message demands payment of $300 in the virtual currency Bitcoin in order to decrypt the files.

Once WannaCry used to worm its way into a system, it encrypted the data, and then exploited the vulnerability in Microsoft’s Server Message Block (SMB) protocol to spread the infection. Its presence had been noted in 150 countries. Among the 10,000 organizations affected are Britain's National Health Service, the U.S.-based courier FedEx, automaker Renault in France and Spain's largest telecom operator.
