Former Hizbul commander, longest surviving terrorist Abdul Qayoom Najar killed in Kashmir

Srinagar, September 27: Indian security forces have led the war against terrorists in a bid to curb terrorism. Every now and then terrorists are killed due to which terror groups including Hizbul Mujahideen, Lashkar-e-Toiba have lost their ground in Kashmir. Notably, Indian security forces again got a major success after they killed one of longest-surviving terrorist and former Hizbul commander Abdul Qayoom Najar.

 

Security forces eliminated Abdul Qayoom Najar in the Lachipora area near the Line of Control with Pakistan as he was trying to infiltrate the Valley from across the border. Abdul Qayoom Najar was the fifth terrorist killed in Uri sector since Sunday. Mobile internet services were suspended in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district, including in Sopore with an aim to prevent rumours from being spread and unrest.

The senior superintendent of police (SSP) Baramulla Imtiyaz Hussain said, “Abdul Qayoom Najar was killed as security forces foiled an infiltration bid in Lachipora area near the LoC on Monday morning." He also said, “Najar was trying to infiltrate into Kashmir from Pakistan side and was a resident of Sopore area of Baramulla district, carried Rs 10 lakh bounty on his head.”


Abdul Qayoom Najar, a 43-year-old and a resident of Sopore area of Baramulla district was the commander of Hizbul Mujahideen till 2015, had broken away to form his own outfit, the Lashkar-e-Islam which carried out a series of attacks on cell phone towers. He became the commander of Hizbul after the killing of terrorist Abdul Majid Dar in 2003.

In the past 17 years, Najar was involved in more than 50 murders of civilians and policemen, besides making improvised explosive device bombs and a wanted who carried 10 lakh bounty on his head. However, he was called back by Hizbul to the base camp in Muzaffarabad in Pak-occupied-Kashmir to sort out the differences and tasked reviving the outfit in Kashmir in the wake of the elimination of top terrorists.
