UN declares the count of internet users to 3.9 billion over the world

 

 

New Delhi, December 8: The United Nations has announced today that the number of internet users worldwide have raised to 3.9 billion. According to the United Nation’s agency, half of the global population is using internet for information and eased communication technology. The UN estimation further states that the internet use is expected to cover 51.2 % of the global population by the end of 2018.

 

While the world’s richest countries have shown slow and steady growth in internet use at 80.9 % in 2018, from 51. 3 % in 2005, the gains have been more dramatic in developing countries. There are 45.3 % of people currently online compared to just 7.7 % in 2005.

 

Global Internet usage refers to the number of people who use the Internet worldwide. It was earlier in year 2015 that the International Telecommunications Union, a specialized body of the UN had estimated that about 3.2 billion people, or almost half of the world's population, would be online by the end of the year 2015.

The above statistic shows the number of internet users in the Asia Pacific region as of January 2018. As of that month, China had 751 million internet users. Second-ranked India accounted for 462 million internet users.

 

 

With over 460 million internet users, India is the secondlargest online market after China. By 2021, there will be about 635.8 million internet users in India. Despite the large base of internet users in India, only 26 % of the Indian population accessed the internet in 2015. This is a significant increase in since then in comparison to the previous years. Furthermore, men dominated internet usages in India measuring 71 % to women’s 29%.

 

One aspect whereby India shares the characteristics of other global internet users is its passion for social media. In 2021, it is estimated that there will be around 358.2 million social network users in India, The same in year 2016 stood at about 216.5 million.
