Tripura Elections records 78.5% voting; Northeast battleground gears up for Meghalaya and Nagaland

Shillong, February 19: While Tripura Elections voting turnover saw 78.5%; elections in Meghalaya and Nagaland are set to go to the polls on 27th February making Northeast battleground ready for the people. The results would be declared on March 3. 

Tripura elections witnessed a huge surge of voters filled with enthusiasm. This time Bhartiya Janata Party seeks to pull out the Left government from roots and establish the right government which will work for fundamental rights of people of Northeast.

Sunil Deodhar, BJP’s Tripura Chief, said the party has worked hard to break the CPI(M)’s hold in the tribal areas — from including tribals in every Morcha, tying up with the IPFT, setting up a separate Tribal Morcha. “We will wipe out the CPI(M) in all 20 of these tribal seats,’’ he said.

Assembly elections in Tripura began on Sunday morning, while people in Meghalaya and Nagaland will vote on February 27. Counting of votes in all the three states in the north-east is on March 3. Elections in Northeast have risen up the temperatures as Bhartiya Janata Party aims to take over the ruling parties to wipe out left governments.

To ensure smooth elections at least 281 companies of central force will be deployed in Nagaland on 27th February. Out of the 281 companies of Central Armed Police Force (CAPF), 77 companies have already arrived and have been deployed throughout the state. The CAPF personnel are also being deployed at police check posts to stop the movement of cash, smuggling of arms, liquor and illegal items.
