In a major success, JK police apprehend two drug peddlers along with 100 Kg of poppy straw

Udhampur, March 27: In a major success, Jammu and Kashmir police on Monday nabbed two drug peddlers and seized a huge quantity of 102 kilograms of poppy straw from their possession. Notably, Pakistan uses terrorism and drugs as a primary tool to exploit youth of Jammu and Kashmir and disturb the stability of the country.

 

Jammu and Kashmir police seized 102 kgs of poppy straw, which was being smuggled in an oil tanker at Bansa Morh, Udhampur. According to the official sources, the tanker was intercepted during a surprise naka at Bansa Morh by Police parties under the supervision of Kameshwar Puri, DySP HQ.

During the search of the tanker bearing registration number JK02AJ-0275, 102 kg of poppy straw was recovered from the possession of Tanker driver Puran Chand and his associate Sudesh Singh. Both of them were arrested on the spot and recovered poppy straw was also seized. In this connection, a case FIR No. 41 /2018 U/S 8/15/29 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Rehmbal and further investigation has been taken up.

Earlier this month, Jammu and Kashmir police nabbed a drug peddler and recovered a large quantity of 224.50 kilograms of poppy straw. A police team intercepted a truck which was on its way to Jammu from Srinagar and immediately took into their custody.

Over hundreds of drug peddlers were arrested last year by Jammu and Kashmir police. In the year 2017, JK police also seized tonnes of drugs including charas, bhang, fukki, poppy straw and brown sugar etc.

In the year 2016, 312 drug peddlers were arrested with tonnes of drugs. According to the official figure, 64 kilograms of charas, 7.5 kilograms of charas powder, 194 kilograms of bhang and bhang dust, 925 kilograms of fukki, 915 kilograms of poppy straw and 3.75 kilograms of brown sugar were seized in the year 2016 from different parts of Jammu and Kashmir. Similarly, in the year 2015 police had registered 375 cases and arrested 442 people and 13 others have been booked under PSA.
