Junior hockey team bus crashes in Canada leaving 15 dead, 14 injured

Ottawa, April 8: It was shocking for not only Canada but for the whole world after getting information given by Canadian police that on Saturday 15 people were killed and 14 people were injured after a truck collided with a bus carrying a junior hockey team to a playoff game in Western Canada.

Police said 29 people, including the driver, were on board the bus of the Humboldt Broncos team when the crash occurred around 5 p.m. Friday on Highway 35 in Saskatchewan.

Curtis Zablocki, the assistant commissioner for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, said the truck was traveling west on Highway 335 and the bus traveling north on Highway 35 when the collision happened. Speaking at a news conference Saturday afternoon, Zablocki said the investigation will take some time.

"The worst nightmare has happened," Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League President Bill Chow said at the news conference as he fought back tears.The cause of the crash could not be immediately confirmed.

 

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said in his tweet, “I cannot imagine what these parents are going through, and my heart goes out to everyone affected by this terrible tragedy, in the Humboldt community and beyond.”

“An entire country is in shock and mourning today as we learn more about the tragic bus crash involving the Humboldt Broncos that claimed the lives of 14 people and injured many more.

“We are heartbroken knowing many of those we lost had their entire lives in front of them. We grieve with those facing news no parent or family should ever have to face. And our hearts go out to the community that has lost teammates, coaches, friends, and mentors” said, President Trudeau.
