Indian duo Manu Attri and Sumeeth Reddy storms into semi-finals of Australian Open

Sydney, May 12: The Indian duo of Manu Attri and B Sumeeth Reddy on Friday entered into the semi-finals of the Men’s doubles event of Australian Open 2018. However, Sameer Verma and B Sai Praneeth bowed out of the tournament after losing their respective men's singles quarter-final matches.

 

Manu Attri and B Sumeeth Reddy qualified for the semifinals after edging past compatriots Arjun MR and Shlok Ramchandran. Manu and Sumeeth defeated Arjun MR and Shlok Ramchandran by 17-21, 21-19, 21-18 in a match that lasted for only 51 minutes. The Indian pair will now take on top seeds Berry Angriawan and Hardianto Hardianto of Indonesia in the semi-finals.

In singles, second seed Sai Praneeth lost to Lee Cheuk Yiu by 21-23, 13-21 in a match that lasted for an hour. Earlier in the first round, Lee Cheuk Yiu also outclassed India’s Lakshya Sen. Meanwhile, Sameer Verma lost to Lu Guangzu in straight games. Sameer went down 21-14 in the first game after Lu won six straight points after the mid-game break.

Meanwhile, the second game proved even harder for the Indian shuttler who went from a 5-3 trail to 15-3 as the Chinese won 10 straight points. Importantly, India’s campaign had already ended in the women’s singles with defeats of Vaishnavi Reddy Jakka and Sai Uttejitha Rao Chukka.
