Coimbatore, May 24: Indian Space Research Organization ISRO seeks to push up the mission of launching 12 to 18 rockets every year as it is hunting for the participation of industries in the endeavour and wanted them to launch rockets by 2020, a top official in Mahendragiri-Headquartered ISRO Propulsion Complex, said on Wednesday.

“ISRO is looking for some sort of consortium of industries to take up the launch and leverage their strength and partner with it in this mission, as these vehicles will carry different satellites to meet various requirements of the common man,” Propulsion Complex Director S. Pandian said.

Speaking at the 7th edition of three-day SUBCON-2018, organised by a district industries association, Pandian said ISRO’s space technology has to be taken to the unreachable in terms of remote sensing, education, telemedicine defence and communication.

ISRO wanted the industries to come forward and develop from raw material to processing, integration, testing and launching of rocket from Sriharikota, he added.

“We want the rockets to be launched by the industry by 2020,” Pandian said.

Stating that India is looking for very large number of transponders and there was the need to cope with the demand, he said that the number of TV channels on air was inadequate to meet the requirements of the family today.

“ISRO’s goal is to reach the unreachable,” Pandian pointed out. Pandian also invited the MSMEs here to take up ISRO’s work packages, numbering nearly 600, which are being outsourced now. Since there were more than 500 subsystems in rockets, many of them can be taken up by the industries located here, he said.
