Congress’s Soumya Reddy wins Jayanagar Assembly seat

Bengaluru, June 13: Congress’s Soumya Reddy today emerged victorious in the Jayanagar Assembly segment by defeating BJP’s BN Prahlad. She bagged the seat with the margin of 2,889 votes. Reddy got 54,457 votes, whereas BN Prahlad managed to get 51,568 votes. The ruling party JD(S) had already extended support to Congress by withdrawing its candidate Kalegowda in order to present the division of votes. Soumya Reddy, daughter of senior Congress leader and former Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy.

Earlier, BJP’s BN Vijayakumar had represented the Jayanagar Assembly for two consecutive terms. During Karnataka assembly polls, the polling of Jayanagar Assembly was canceled due to the sudden demise of BJP lawmaker BN Vijayakumar. Later BN Prahlad, brother of Vijayakumar was fielded against Soumya Reddy.
