Jerusalem, June 20: The Hamas targeted Israeli civilians by launching 45 rockets towards Israel on Monday. Israeli Army has said, its fighter jets hit 25 targets in the Gaza Strip early today in response to rocket fire from the Palestinian territory.

In a statement, the Army said, around 30 projectiles, including rockets, were fired overnight from Gaza towards Israel. The fresh hostilities come with tensions high in Gaza after mass protests and clashes broke out along the border on 30th March.

“At least 132 Palestinians have been killed,” says the Palestinian side while there are no official confirmations yet. There have been no Israeli fatalities. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and other international stakeholders have warned that Gaza is close to the brink of war.

Israel and Hamas have fought three wars since 2008 and observe a tense ceasefire that is regularly shaken by hostile acts.

Last month, at least 55 Palestinians were killed and more than 2400 wounded by Israeli troops on the Gaza border, as mass protests erupted against the transfer of the US embassy to Jerusalem.

But the other side of the coin, the Israel Defense Forces said around 40,000 Gazans were demonstrating in 12 locations along the border at the riots’ peak. It said thousands more were gathered at points several hundred meters from the fence.

The Israel Defense Forces in a statement accused Hamas, which controls Gaza, of leading a terrorist operation and inciting protesters who had amassed by the border fence with Israel to conduct what Israel described as terror attacks.
