Washington, August 2: The United States Wilbur Ross on Wednesday lauded Trump administration's decision regarding the designation of India under a Strategic Trade Authorization-1 (STA-1) country and said that it will directly benefit the US manufacturers.

Wilbur Ross said that the Trump administration's decision to ease export controls for high-technology product sales to India by placing it in the Strategic Trade Authorisation-1 list of countries will benefit the US manufacturers. He also expressed his happiness after meeting Indian Ambassador to US Navtej Sarna during Indo-Pacific Biz Forum.

Wilbur Ross in a tweet said, “It was an honor to meet with Ambassador @NavtejSarna earlier this week and participate in the #Indo PacificBizForum at the @USIBC. India's new status will benefit U.S. manufacturers while continuing to protect our national security.”

On Monday this week, the United States Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross announced that India is now designated under a Strategic Trade Authorization-1 (STA-1) country. Importantly, India became the only South Asian nation to be placed under STA-1 status by US. The granting of STA-1 status to India comes after the US recognized it as a major defence partner in 2016.
