Security forces eliminate terrorist in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district

Srinagar, August 22: Security forces on Tuesday gunned down one unidentified terrorist after a fierce encounter broke out in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district. The body of slain terrorist along with a rifle and some ammunition recovered from the encounter spot.

 

Security forces including personnel of Indian Army, police and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation following the input of 2-3 terrorists in Handwara town of Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district. As soon as the joint team of forces approached towards the spot, the hiding terrorists opened fire that ensured into a fierce encounter.

In retaliation, one terrorist was killed. The body of slain terrorist along with rifle and some ammunition recovered from the encounter spot. Earlier, in the day, Kashmir Zone Police in a tweet said, “Some exchange of fire between terrorists and SFs at # Handwara. Area under cordon. Information is preliminary in nature.”


Meanwhile, a brief exchange of gunfight took place between terrorists and security forces at Yaroo area of Langate, Handwara late afternoon. On August 9, security forces “Operation All-Out” got a massive fillip in Jammu and Kashmir as at least five more terrorists were sent to the graves after a gun-battle took place in the forests of Hamam in Baramulla district.

While on August 4, five terrorists belonged to Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) were killed in Kiloora village in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district. The terrorists were identified as Arshad Ahmad Khan, Aijaz Ahmad Paul, Waqar Ahmed Sheikh and Umar Nazir Malik. Earlier, the centre has said that 110 terrorists were killed in the first seven months of this year.
